Do you feel like you "don't fit in?" Perhaps it feels awkward because you always feel at a loss for what to say, or maybe everyone else seems enamored by topics to discuss that you don't find interesting? Maybe you do great with most people but still have that one relative that triggers you into dysregulation every time you talk to them? Even the guru Ram Dass said. "If you think you're enlightened, go spend a week with your family." Families can be tough!
Maybe you aren't sure what you would say in therapy because you don't really have words for your experiences. If any of the above resonates with you, try not to feel discouraged! Look at any map and note that there are often multiple roads to the same place. Just because you are not on "their" road does not mean you are necessarily on the "wrong" road!
Karen is an LCSW licensed in AZ., ID., KS., MO., MT., NV., OR., and WA. She is available for tele-mental health sessions only in the states listed through a HIPAA compliant online video platform., or in person in North-Central Shelby, Montana for residents of Montana.
She has thirty-five years plus of experience and uses a very eclectic approach that draws from multiple modalities. She has a background in traditional psychotherapy, but prefers to come from a "whole person," strength-based approach rather than the traditional "illness-based" approach. She was an LPN many years ago and has taken additional graduate level courses in natural and alternative health and a health coaching course because she is passionate about the food/mood connection between physical and mental health and in natural health and healing. She continues to learn something new almost every day. Ram Dass also said, "We are all just walking each other home." Kindness, compassion, and respect for one another can go such a long way. Karen has no desire to compete with you because she wants you to win, too! She believes a win/win beats a win/lose every time!
She is LGBTQIA2S+, neurodivergent, polyamory, KINK, and other expansive identity friendly and seeks to help connect people who have lost faith in church religion to consider and find their own unique sense of spirituality however they might define that.
Karen is a spiritual animist, a reiki master, lover of animals, plants, and gardening. She enjoys making her own personal care products using herbs and essential oils, and in tweaking delicious recipes into a "healthier" version of delicious. Her soul is most at home near the mountains. and clear water. She is an INFJ/Guardian, genderfluid, pansexual, and chooses not to embrace any particular pronouns.
Karen incorporates techniques such as use of visual imagery, music, guided meditations, movement, rituals, aromatherapy, spirituality (however you might define it outside of traditional "church" religion), "energy" modalities, and the food/mood connection alongside evidence-based practices like IFS, DBT, CBT, Polyvagal theory, Epigenetics, Attachment theory, Compassionate Inquiry, Motivational Interviewing, and a Strength-based perspective to provide a more holistic approach to healing mind/body/spirit. She also relies on good educational resource links to provide additional opportunities to follow up on issues brought into the sessions.
This combination of techniques will help you access your creative expression and intuition to assist in your ability to identify limiting beliefs and behaviors in your life and move toward your own natural ability to heal in a safe, contained environment with a therapist who will honor your unique contribution to this life's journey. Albert Einstein said, "I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that do not work." We would find and explore other ways that DO work better for you.
Karen works with issues such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, shame, grief/loss/end-of-life/hospice, acute and chronic health concerns, relationship challenges such as communication enhancement/conflict resolution/intimacy, self-harming behaviors, trauma, body dysmorphia, finding your "life's purpose."
Engaging in a therapy process can create new opportunities to be more flexible and resilient in life, leaving behind what no longer works, and stepping into the power of who you desire to become.
